" Basically tonight is not just about raising money ... I
want what Jimmy (Valvano) wanted and what they (the Pumps) want.
I want your mind and your soul. I want your heart. I want
your effort and I want to bring money too, but don’t just give
money, be a part of this."

Joe Montana |
| |
|
Playing football, making spectacular fourth-quarter
combacks and winning Super Bowls are all part of the
legend of Joe Montana, the former San Fransisco 49ers
quarterback who might have been the greatest ever to
play the game.
Joe Montana, selected by the San Francisco 49ers in
the third round of the 1979 National Football League
Draft, had a stellar career with the 49ers and Kansas
City Chiefs. A master of late-game comebacks, Montana
directed his teams to 31 fourth quarter come-from-behind
wins during his illustrious career, including a 92-yard
drive in the closing seconds of Super Bowl XXIII.
Eleven times the "Hall of Fame" quarterback
led his team to the playoffs. Along the way, he captured
nine divisional championships and victories in Super
Bowls XVI, XIX, XXIII, and XXIV. His outstanding play
in Super Bowls XVI, XIX, and XXIV earned him Most Valuable
Player honors in each game. Montana’s poise, agility
and patience under pressure is legendary.
Montana lives with his wife Jennifer and four children
on a ranch in Knight’s Valley, north of Calistoga
in the wine country. They have transformed their love of
the valley into a collaboration with Beringer to create “Montagia,” a
signature cabernet sauvignon blend. Montana has also co-authored
a new book titled “The Winning Spirit” about
success using his football experiences – things like
preparation, humility and leadership. |
